Golden Retriever Training

Do you have a Golden Retriever that needs some training help? Natalie from Crazy Kind Calm dog training can help!

With over 900 dogs trained across the Macedon Ranges, Natalie understands the unique personality and needs that come with this wonderful breed.

Golden Retrievers are gentle, patient dogs bred for retrieving game on the hunt. They're famously good-natured and eager to please, which makes them wonderful family dogs — though their size and enthusiasm can create challenges during adolescence.

Common Golden Retriever traits and training needs

  • Mouthy breed — loves to carry things and may nip or grab hands during play
  • Pulls strongly on lead, especially when excited by people or other dogs
  • Jumps up on people as a greeting, which becomes a bigger issue as they grow
  • Can be slow to settle indoors and may pace or pant when overstimulated
  • Highly social and may struggle with impulse control around other dogs
  • Prone to counter-surfing and stealing items for attention

Golden Retriever owners know their dog means well — every jumped-on visitor and stolen sock is done with a wagging tail and a smile. But at 30+ kilos, that enthusiasm needs some structure. If your Golden is the one at the park who won't come back, or the one who greets every guest by practically sitting on them, you're in very good company. Goldens are keen learners and genuinely want to make you happy.
